9 roots 10 roots

Last night I had a dream that the mom from Home Improvement (Jill Taylor) was trying to drug and murder me. Actually, the dream slipped between me being the one she was trying to kill, to me being an omniscient third person viewer, watching her try to kill Johnathon Taylor Thomas (the actor who played the middle child, Randy). In either case, she didn't succeed. Her family and I were able to put a stop to it. The strange thing about this is that it's the second dream I've had where a television personality is trying to murder me. The first was Reginald VelJohnson, the actor who played Carl Winslow on Family Matters. We were in a huge circular room with red carpet. I had some kind of power over everyone in the room, like I had been appointed king. Then, in some kind of ritualistic coup d'etat, Carl was sent to murder me. He stabbed me in the back multiple times, and became the holder of the power. If there is an alphabetical pattern to this (beginning with F and skipping every other letter) then tonight I should be murdered by someone from the cast of Just Shoot Me (probably David Spade).

Holy Modals Have Moicy

I picked up four 24x24 inch wood panels that I ordered from Bill's Frames in Tempe. Bill was a really nice guy, and gave me a great deal. I also found Season 3 of The Simpsons on DVD in my garage. I watched the second Treehouse of Horror episode. The episode is divided into three nightmares Bart, Lisa, and Homer get from eating too much halloween candy. Lisa's dream is first and the funniest, then Bart's which is less funny, and finally Homer's which is definitely the least entertaining. Afterwards I bought two albums off of itunes. Holy Modal Rounders' 1 & 2, and Michael Hurley's Armchair Boogie. Both albums are really, really great. Although I could still use some more traditional bluegrass.

Aspen Magazine

Aspen was a magazine published from 1965 to 1971 by Phyllis Johnson. Described as "the first 3 dimensional magazine" it came in a box or folder filled with various materials. Only 10 issues were published, each with a different editor and designer (usually "leading figures in contemporary North American and British art and cultural criticism"). Some of my favorite parts so far are Dan Graham's poems and David Hockney's "Notes on Rumpelstiltsken".

Whiffle

Today Chazz, Addie, Joe, Laura, Ruairidh, Landon, Jesse, Maria, and I skipped school. The original plan was to eat at Matt's Big Breakfast, but the line was out the door. Instead we went to the IHOP up the street. Afterwards we played whiffle ball at Encanto Park. Around noon Fritz met up with us, and we played another round. \I wonder whether or not writing consistently, but with little effort helps someone to write better. Some things, if done repetitvely, but with no thought put in (like doing pushups) will yeild a desired result. I don't know if same can be said for things like drawing or writing. It seems like doing these aimlessly will keep you from progressing. If you write jibberish on a page every day for a year, at the end of the year you won't be able to write a novel, it'll still be jibberish. I also bought two nice american flag stickers today.

Otto Glover

I've been watching a lot of Crispin Glover interviews on youtube, wild guy. I still need to see River's edge. As far as The Simpsons are concerned, Otto is my favorite character. I think behind Marge and Homer, Otto is one of the biggest influences on Bart in terms of lifestyle, and attitude. Otto is a little more easy going and optimistic though, whereas Bart is still rambunctious and cynical (something I think Otto eventually grew out of). I need new bluegrass.
